Why We Do This
At Mesothelioma Lawyer Center, our mission goes beyond legal advocacy. We understand how mesothelioma impacts families, finances, and futures. That’s why we’re offering a scholarship to help students whose lives have been touched by asbestos-related disease.
Scholarship Details
- Award Amount — e.g. “$500 total” (or split amounts)
- Number of Awards — e.g. “1 or 2 recipients per year”
- Type of Awards — e.g. “Essay submission,” “Video essay optional,” or both
- Use of Funds — e.g. “Funds will be paid directly to the educational institution to cover tuition, fees, books, or other approved expenses”
- Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student
- Must be U.S. resident
- Demonstrable impact of mesothelioma / asbestos exposure (self, family, caretaker)
- Minimum GPA (if you want)
- Enrollment or acceptance at an accredited institution
- Optional: require letters of recommendation

How to Apply
Applying for the scholarship is simple. Follow the steps below to complete your submission:
Step 1: Complete the Online Application
Fill out the online application form with your personal details, contact information, and academic background.
Step 2: Submit Your Essay
Write and upload an original essay responding to the following prompt:
“Describe how mesothelioma or asbestos exposure has impacted your life or family, and your hopes for the future.”
Step 3: (Optional) Share a Short Video
You may also include a 2–3 minute video sharing your story and what inspires you to pursue your goals.
Please upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and share the link in the application form. Be sure to set your video privacy to Public or Unlisted so it can be viewed by the selection committee.
Step 4: Provide Letters of Recommendation
Include one or two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or community leader who can speak to your character and achievements.
Step 5: Submit Academic Documentation
Upload your official transcript or proof of current enrollment or acceptance at an accredited institution.
Upload Guidelines
- Accepted file types: PDF, DOC/DOCX, MP4
- Maximum file size: 10 MB per file
- All materials must be submitted through the online form before the deadline.
Evaluation & Judging
- Criteria and weighting (e.g. 50% essay strength, 20% impact, 15% academic, 15% letter)
- Who judges (internal committee, possibly external experts)

FAQs
Who’s eligible?
Applicants must be current students enrolled in one of the program’s focus areas to be considered eligible.
Can I reapply?
Yes! Students are welcome to reapply each year as long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
When will winners be notified?
Recipients will be notified in March of each year. Please note that all applications must be submitted by December of the previous year.
What if I change schools?
Changing schools will not affect your eligibility. The scholarship will remain valid as long as you continue your studies within the approved focus areas.
Do I need to maintain a GPA?
Yes, students must maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA to remain eligible for the scholarship.
Can the scholarship be used for room & board?
Yes. The scholarship funds may be used for any education-related expenses, including tuition, books, supplies, and room & board.
