Each disease category is assigned a specific compensation value based on its severity, medical criteria, and documented exposure history, ensuring equitable distribution of trust funds to all eligible claimants.
The table below shows the scheduled value for each disease level in section 5.3(a)(3) of the trust’s Trust Distribution Procedures (checked October 5, 2026). Mesothelioma claims can also go through Individual Review, where the average value is $145,300 and the maximum is $382,600.

Like every asbestos trust, the Owens-Illinois trust pays the scheduled value multiplied by its payment percentage.
Owens-Illinois Trust Payment Percentage
The Owens-Illinois Asbestos Trust offers financial compensation to individuals who developed asbestos-related illnesses as a result of asbestos exposure to Owens-Illinois materials. Each case is evaluated according to a scheduled value that reflects the type and severity of the diagnosed condition.
However, the final compensation amount is determined by the Owens-Illinois Asbestos trust payment percentage, which is periodically adjusted to ensure the trust remains sustainable and able to compensate future claimants. The trustees raised the rate from 50 percent to 65 percent effective August 19, 2026 (trust notice). Claims already paid at 50 percent receive a supplemental payment. At 65 percent, a mesothelioma claim at the $100,000 base scheduled value is paid $65,000, slightly more once the trust’s 1 percent yearly increase since 2023 is applied.

Owens-Illinois Asbestos-Containing Products
Owens-Illinois made Kaylo, an asbestos-containing thermal insulation, according to the trust’s history of the company. It sold the Kaylo business to Owens Corning in 1958. To qualify for payment, a claimant must show exposure to an Owens-Illinois asbestos-containing product as the trust’s distribution procedures define it. Overview of the Owens-Illinois Asbestos Claim and Trust Fund
Owens-Illinois (O-I) moved its asbestos liabilities into a subsidiary, Paddock Enterprises, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2020 (trust history). Paddock’s plan took effect on July 8, 2022, according to O-I Glass, and created the Owens-Illinois Asbestos Personal Injury Trust, which now handles asbestos claims against O-I.
